How do employees plan a caregiver leave?
When employees design their leave in Cocoon, “Caregiver leave” appears as an option to select. In the planning flow, Cocoon determines their benefit state and asks who they will be caring for to ensure that it’s a covered relationship based on their eligibility.
For example, parent, spouse, and child relationships are covered under FMLA. Under CFRA in California, parent-in-laws are also considered covered relationships. Note: if your employee is trying to plan a caregiver leave for a relationship that’s not covered based on their eligibility, we’ll flag that they need to reach out to support to chat through next steps.
Compliance, claims, and pay
Compliance
Cocoon sends all required eligibility and designation notices to employees taking caregiver leave. People teams don’t have to worry about state regulations or requirements because Cocoon has you covered.
Claims
In states with pay programs, employees are responsible for submitting their own caregiver leave claims. In states without pay programs, no claims are needed.
Cocoon will automatically identify any state benefits employees may be eligible for. The My tasks tab on employees' Cocoon Dashboard will walk them through completing necessary forms and submitting any claims they to file need to receive full pay.
Pay
In the event your company has a caregiver leave policy with a pay component, Cocoon will calculate payroll for your team to ensure employees on leave are being compensated appropriately.
