State regulations and paid leave programs are evolving rapidly. States now favor direct relationships with benefit recipients in an effort to combat fraud. In CA, the state updated several processes after freezing over 300,000 disability claims in 2022. Employees must now complete an identity verification process through ID.me, and CA EDD representatives will only release claim information to the benefit recipient directly.
