Once you start receiving benefits from your state and/or private insurance, Cocoon may request that you self report benefits. Oftentimes, state and private insurance agencies won’t provide direct insight into approval of the claim and distribution of funds. This can mean that the only indication of approval or insight into the benefit amounts issued is the checks physically arriving in your mail!

Why does this matter?

  • We want to ensure that you get paid for every day of leave you’re eligible for. Sometimes agencies might pause payments in the middle of your leave. If that happens, we want to make sure we know and are reaching out on your behalf, so you receive all funds allotted to you!

  • Since your employer may be topping off your pay based upon the benefits you’re receiving, we’ll want to ensure you’ve been paid in full throughout the entirety of your leave. We’ll use this record of benefits payments to resolve any outstanding payroll reconciliation.

How do I self report?

If we request you self report your benefits, please upload pictures of the checks you’ve received AND check stubs that show what dates of coverage these checks are for to this link.

In what cases will you need me to self report?

  • For any CA PFL Bonding claim (there’s no electronic trail here!)

  • Any time we file by paper for CA EDD claims

  • For any Washington or NJ state claim

  • Private Insurance if there’s difficulty accessing information
