How do I get in touch with the EDD?

It can be difficult contacting the EDD, and may require multiple attempts. While the lines can fill up quickly, here are the steps that we've found to be most effective in reaching a representative:

If you’re calling about a pregnancy disability claim or a medical claim:

  1. Call 800 480 3287 at exactly 8:00am PST (before the EDD lines reach max capacity) or at 3:00p, PST (when the EDD lines are a bit slower).

  2. There are several prompts you'll need to go through once you call in. In order to reach the needed department, follow these steps:

    1. Press 1 for English

    2. Press 3 3 0 in rapid succession to speak to a call representative

If you’re calling about a PFL bonding claim or caregiver claim, please call:

  1. Call 877 238 4373 at exactly 8:00am PST (before the EDD lines reach max capacity) or at 3:00pm, PST (when the EDD lines are a bit slower).

  2. There are several prompts you'll need to go through once you call in. In order to reach the needed department, follow these steps:

    1. Press 1 for English

    2. Press 3 for Paid Family Leave

    3. Press 1 for Eligibility

    4. Press 5 for Bonding

    5. Press 0 to be connected to a rep

Why do I need to call in?

The EDD is currently extremely limited on what information they are sharing with anyone other than the beneficiary of the funds - including leave facilitators or employers. Claims can often be delayed for various reasons that require a call into the EDD. Some of those reasons include:

  • Dates needing to be adjusted post filing of claim

  • Address needed to be changed post filing of claim

  • Claim payments paused mid claim, and there are no actionable items found in EDD portal or via mail

  • Claim paused before any benefit payments have been processed (concern necessary roughly more than 2 weeks post final submission)

  • Payments needing to be reissued

  • Receiving a call in notice from the state

Some issues can only be resolved by user call in; sometimes the EDD representatives will refuse to share information with us or your employers. In order to get your claim processed and approved, the EDD has requested that you give them a call to verify some necessary information.

How will I know if I need to call in?

Oftentimes, the EDD will mail you a physical notice requesting you call in if they need any additional information on your claim. You may also want to call in to check in on your claim status.

If you have any questions or if we can provide any guidance ahead of your call, don't hesitate to reach out to the Cocoon Support team and we're happy to help however we can!

What do I need to know before calling?

Once you've entered all the prompts, you'll be placed on hold and the next available representative will assist you. They'll ask for:

  • date of birth

  • social security number

  • mailing address

Once verified, let the representative know that you're calling in to verify information regarding your claim, and to see what information is needed to get the claim processed and approved.

Please note that the employer mailing address linked to your claim is Cocoon’s office address: 548 Market St #68975 San Francisco, California 94104. We use this address in order to help facilitate your claims and ensure any documentation that needs to be filled out by your employer is quickly and accurately returned to the EDD!
