Leave pay is confusing. Cocoon works to alleviate this confusion by providing pre-leave education and post-leave submission tools to track and understand pay. Below you can find all the points through the employee leave journey where they learn about pay.

When employees first make their Cocoon account, they can toggle over to the Policies tab to see an overview of your company's leave policies for their leave type—including any pay policies you may have. This language is approved by your team during the onboarding process with Cocoon. If you ever need to make any updates, please email [email protected].

When planning their leave, employees will see a leave timeline that shows them how much pay they can expect. We start by surfacing sections of full pay, partial pay, and no pay. Employees can click the bars to reveal more detail around where this pay is coming from (their company, insurance, the state).

When submitting their leave plan, employees will see the following screen explaining how pay works during leave.

After submitting their leave, employees will see the below modal that directs them to watch a video explaining leave pay. Clicking Learn how leave pay works takes them to an educational video about leave pay.

After a leave is submitted, employees will see a Pay Tracker in the My payments tab of their Cocoon dashboards. They can use this resource once their leave starts to understand their pay—where it’s coming from, why their pay from their employer may look a little different, and more.

Clicking on each pay period bar will show further details about their pay from the company (both leave and regular pay, if applicable) and any expected benefits.

In the Pay period details, employees can see even more granular details on their pay per period (both past and upcoming) to see exactly how their estimated total pay was calculated.

From the pay tracker, employees can report the benefits they’ve received to verify that our estimations are correct. If any actual received benefits differ from the estimations, we’ll identify next steps for necessary adjustment. For any underpayments, Cocoon will include a true-up on the next payroll file we send to your team. For any overpayments, we’ll drop folks into the Excess Employer Benefit flow.

From the Support tab in their dashboard, employees can also access the Employee Help Center, which has an entire section dedicated to answering the most common questions employee have about leave pay so they can get the informaiton they need as quickly as possible.
