Once terminated, a former employee can no longer file claims within Cocoon. If your former employee has filed claims, please remind them that Cocoon no longer supports the claim process. They should follow up directly with the state or the insurance company for any information on the status.

Your former employee may ask about filing new claims with their state or private disability carrier for Short Term Disability (STD) or Long Term Disability (LTD). You can advise your former employee to proceed with filing any claims for benefits they feel they may be entitled to receive.

If a former employee decides to file any claims outside of Cocoon, they may be eligible through their state or your company's STD or LTD carrier. The state and the STD/LTD carrier will adjudicate the claims. Since we are not the decision-makers, we can't predict the outcome of their decision; however, your former employee could be eligible for benefits if they meet the eligibility criteria.

When a state or insurance company is making decisions on claims for benefits, they will check for employee eligibility as their first step. The insurance policy or the state's website outlines the eligibility criteria. The state or the insurance carrier will decide on the filed claims; neither the employer nor Cocoon will make those decisions.
